As always, there are things I forget to mention in my posts. They could become overly long and I don't want to do that. One of the most interesting facts that I learned yesterday, was the aftermath of the forest fire in 1988. I posted a couple of pictures of the decimation of that fire. There was a lot more area than I could have photographed as I recall the event vividly. The pluses far outweighed the negative. Most of the small vegetation that burned came back from their roots and provided food for the animals and was easier to get to because of the lack of other undergrowth! Also the woodpeckers had a field day on the burned down trees. as the insects were abundant. All of the fauna existing in this park were benefited by the fire in one way or another. I believe that I read somewhere that it is all part of the ecosystem. Lightening strikes cause these fires to "cleanse" the area, just as a lightening storm in the spring will weed out the weaker plants. I need to study about this when I get back home.
John is so excited about today. We are going on a trail ride (hopefully there is not a weight limit!) and the Cedar Mountain Trail Ride advertises that it is for beginners to advanced riders, ages 4 and up. Also, there is a restaurant named Cassie's that used to be a brothel that we have go to see and we are taking a friend of John's advice and have bar-b-que at the hotel Irma for lunch. there is a presentation given by a local on the history of Cody, so we are going to attend that. After that, we are going to chill for we have a long ride back through Yellowstone tomorrow. It is 81 miles back to the eastern gate, but I am so glad that we ended up there. It is way cool.
